I timed me return well…….
NOT!
Since I have been back all I have heard on the news is that factories are closing down, business is moving to Eastern Europe and the property market is in a slump!
Unreal!
But I am going to struggle on and make a go of it here. But I am struggling at the moment.
I am doing plenty online to keep me occupied but it isnt enough for now. If I was given an option of doing nothing in Ireland or doing nothing in THailand I am pretty sure I would know which one I would pick!
The clocks have changed here too which should make things better and give more light in the evenings. I have been very good with my exercise regime since my return and i have walked down Dun Laoire pier at least once a day. I am also eating much more healthy but at the moment I am not feeling any better. I think my body is in detox.
The new Ireland is an interesting Irelad. There are plenty more immigrants since 6 years ago and it is very noticeable everywhere you go. THere are Chinese, Africans and Eastern Europeans. There are far more POlish than anyone else and it appears that they have been welocmed with open arms. THey have integrated very well into Irish society and I havent heard of any negative feelings towards them.
THat is good to hear and it will encourage more foreigners to come here which will help with Irelands continued development!
It is very different to my experiences in Thailand where I definitely felt an anti-foreign feeling in the last year. But I think this is all to do with how the economy is going. Thailand is going through a tough time and foreigners are easy targets. For now, Ireland is still going quite well but if things start to fall down then will our attitudes towards foreigners change?
Time will tell.
Since I have been back I have also eaten in 2 Thai restaurants. Tiger Becks in Dalkey was terrible. There were no Thai people working there – just Chinese. Thats like having an American running an Irish pub! The second place was Pink Elephant in Dun Laoire and it was excellent – and fully run by Thais! Well worth a visit but I am still finding it hard to come to terms with the high prices here.
My job hunting is progressing but I have an interesting online project which I am working on now which should keep me busy! More on that later.
I am still looking to rent my Condo in Bangkok so if anyone has any interest please get in touch.
